Aimed at programmers and technical users, this app provides a handy one-stop tool for converting between letters (e.g. A, B, C) and numbers (1, 2 or 3) for spreadsheet columns. Common applications include writing code in other languages to process data generated by spreadsheet programs.
From letters to numbers, this app does the same as Excel's COLUMN function, returning the number 731 for a cell ABC1. ADDRESS works in the opposite direction: ADDRESS(1,731) giving $ABC$1.
Although there is no theoretical limitation to how large column numbers can be, this app limits them to eight letters for display purposes. This corresponds to a number of 217,180,147,158; a value clearly unrealistically high for most spreadsheet programs.
