The National Gallery in Berlin (Alte Nationalgalerie) is home to some of the best and famous European paintings. It is home to the collection of some of Germany and Austria's best known artists such as Schinkel, Menzel, Caspar Friedrich, Slevogt and many others. It also has a famous collection of French Impressionism paintings and some amazing sculptures and panels. The gallery is the famed central part of the ensemble known as Berlin’s Museum Island, a World Heritage site of UNESCO. With an impressive collection of artworks from the 19th century, a period that could be arguably termed as the Golden Age of German art, the gallery showcases the finest in Neoclassical, Romantic, Biedermeier, Impressionist and early Modernist artwork. On the first floor, on display are a number of fine paintings by Adolph Menzel and Anton von Werner with subjects of Prussian history. The 2nd floor shows a collection of high quality French Impressionist paintings. The 3rd floor shows art of the Goethe era and paintings of German artists working in Rome. The famous Biedermeier art is also represented here. This museum guide app is your perfect companion for visiting this splendid gallery.
