A jigsaw puzzle dates back to 1760 when John Spilsbury, a London engraver and mapmaker mounted one of his maps on a sheet of hardwood and cut around the borders of the countries using a fine-bladed marquetry saw. The end product was an educational pastime, designed as an aid in teaching British children their geography.

Jigsaw puzzles develop several functions of the brain, it helps to enhance abilities to reason, deduce, analyse, sequence, develop logical thought and problem solving skills. And it also helps in eye-hand coordination and spatial awareness.
