Do you have passion for math? Yearning to thrive in the future?
Then an actuarial career may be for you! Actuaries put price tags on risks. They calculate the costs of uncertain future events that range from tornadoes and hurricanes to changes in life expectancy. Their work is the backbone not only of the insurance and financial security industries, but of government programs like Social Security and Medicare. Some have degrees in actuarial science, while others have degrees in business, economics, math, or the liberal arts.
How will the Bruin Actuarial Society help you?
We prepare UCLA students for future employment as an actuary in many different ways including:
•SOA/CAS Exam preparation: offering seminars for P, FM, MLC, MFE, and C.
•Networking events including career fairs, informational sessions, shadow day, etc. Our goal is to bridge ambitious students and proactive firms. A great number of our alumni work for various insurance/consulting firms. It is a great opportunity to join our network and get access to top UCLA actuarial students.
•Resume workshop, Excel/Access workshop, public speaking workshop, mock interviews, and an actuarial case competition. Our alumni come back regularly and give practical lessons and share their experience.
•Mentorship program dedicated to incoming students to ease the transition into UCLA and provide information in this career path and guidance for actuarial recruiting. Of course, all members are welcome to participate in this program.
BAS will assist in molding your future success as an actuary, so join now! All majors are welcome!
