Golf was first played here in 1899 on a nine-hole course that expanded to 18 holes in 1911. In 1925, Donald Ross was commissioned to redesign the course, completing his assigned task in 1926. Not long by modern standards, the layout will challenge players in more subtle ways. The use of elevation changes makes for an enjoyable experience on these few glorious acres beneath the Sunset Terrace. Fairways are contoured to accept properly shaped shots; bunkers are devilish and should be avoided; and the greens are pitched and sloped to severe but not impossible standards.
