Masters of the Moor gives you the opportunity to see Dartmoor through the eyes and brush of Victorian artist FJ Widgery. The app lets you recreate the landscape painting over the modern day view.
Plus you can share your view of the places captured in paint via your camera – can you find and share all 24 paintings?
FJ Widgery (1861-1942), received formal art training at home and abroad. His more precise draughtsmanship was ideal for small-scale work and illustration. FJ, though a very productive artist, found time to be involved in Exeter politics and the running of The Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM). He drew life-long inspiration from the landscape of Devon and, above all, from Dartmoor.
His paintings of 19th Century Dartmoor capture the feel of an age gone by but still familiar through the works of Conan-Doyle and others.
