Maccabi Petah Tikva was the only team in the colony who played in the first division (Hapoel Petah Tikva was founded only in 1934) and is composed of upper class of the time. Played with her aged farmers and packers, who were respected and sought-after professions in those days.
The first suburbs of Maccabi Petah Tikva was in the woods, near the famous threshing floor, where they would be alone young men and women of the colony. Today is there Ein Ganim neighborhood. In 1921 the colony was attacked by Arab gangs, and Absalom Gisin out to repel the attack and fell in with three friends. After his death, it was decided that the group named after him, Maccabi Avshalom Petah Tikva. Maccabi Petah Tikva has never won the championship. However, the group boasts two national cups (1935 versus power, in 1952 against Maccabi Tel Aviv), three Toto Cup first division (19941995, 19992000, 20032004), two Toto Cups in the second (198990, 1990 91) and the National newspaper Haaretz (1940) match against Timisoara in Romania.
Over the years, the group knew its ups and downs, and relegated down several times. In 1991, the group to the Premier League and played in 21 seasons until 20112012 season went down again to the second division. In the 90s moved into the group management Amos and Avi Luzon, while the cost of an NGO group led by Nachman Mandel. Avi Luzon was chairman of the group for a decade, having been active in the association for many years, including the role of Treasurer. Prior to his election as chairman of the Israel Football Association resigned his directorship Luzon club and was replaced by Moses (changed) Zwart. Amos Luzon is the club's president and chief sponsor.
