The Alan Peat Guide To Writing Gruesome Ghost Stories.
'The Alan Peat Guide To Writing Gruesome Ghost Stories' is a comprehensive, ideas-rich app designed for both busy classroom teachers AND pupils! The teacher and pupil editions are in fact combined in one app and that's not all. If you enter the 'Pupil Edition' you can choose either a single user option or a group (up to ten pupils each with individual log-ins) option.
The app is divided into easily accessible sections, key among which are,
a) Ghost story characters
b) Ghost story settings
c) Ghost story dilemmas
In each of these three sections a suggested 'menu-of-possibilities' is detailed followed by a 'My Notes' section in which teachers and/or pupils can add additional ideas, lesson plans etc.
A further key section is entitled 'Ghost Story Plot Skeletons' - the bare bones of twenty five ghost story plots which can be 'fleshed out' / expanded into finished stories by pupils. In the introduction to this section I explain how to use the plot skeletons in class. They are particularly useful when considering whole story plots!
The app also includes a 'Glossary' section which is designed to help teachers and pupils to consider/learn a variety of language features of ghost stories. We've titled it 'Ever Expanding...' as you can add as many additional ideas as you wish to each letter of the glossary. It expands as your knowledge of the genre expands and it saves your ideas in-app!
Dropbox and Email integration remain an integral part of each of our apps and the ability to save your own notes (in-app) and share ideas (via Dropbox or email) is a central plank of the global raising-standards agenda.
This is the first in a planned series of apps, each of which will focus on a single narrative genre - Fairytales will follow and then Science Fiction.
