Sapphire Glass Manufacturing plant to be built in Arizona for Apple

Apple is trying to improve its reputation after all those horror stories about Foxconn. Apple is going to build a new plant in Mesa, Arizona. The project is thought to bring up to 2,000 local jobs to the area. To make it even better, the building will be powered 100 percent by renewable energy.

The plant will be used to make Sapphire Glass alongside GT Advanced Technologies. Apple needs some sapphire for every iPhone 5S shipped since it’s used in the Touch ID sensor. It’s also the protective surface over the camera. The Touch ID sensor might have been why the iPhone 5S has experienced some supply shortages. Obviously there will be a while before the factory is up and running but if Apple gets well ahead with it now, it might be ready by 2015. Touch ID will likely be in the next iPad as well, so Apple needs to get this supply issue under control.
