Editorial: why people love to hate Apple products and the people who love them

Let’s face it: there’s a lot of overt hatred for Apple products and the people who use them. There’s the “fanboy” comments, digs at the product, insults to Steve Jobs, and comments about how every other product in the world is better than Apple products and therefore anyone who uses an iPhone or other Apple device is deluded, brainwashed, or otherwise stupid.

Are these haters jealous? Hating for the sake of not falling in with the “cool” crowd? Or just posing because they somehow think it’s cool to resist?

Is it the company’s high profile that inspires hate? Is it Steve Jobs’ amazing success at turning around the company? Or is it the marketing?

Apple is in the news. That’s a given. With new products controversy over patents, and even news about possible tax evasions in other countries, some reporter, somewhere, is seemingly always reporting on the company or its products.

Why People Hate

Apple executives can’t be manipulated. When any other company gets attacked or mocked, its CEO might second-guess him- or herself, say something ridiculous, or make mistakes. Not Apple execs! They know what they’re doing, where they’re going, and they carry on according to plan, no matter what other people say. Apple execs (and the techs who work there) know their stuff, therefore there’s no reason for them to be swayed from their course.

This, of course, could result in the company coming across as insulting or arrogant. This makes people angry, particularly when it’s them trying to manipulate the company or badmouth Apple over social media.

Apple’s systems are closed. This means that those super-techy people who want to tinker with their software or hardware are going to be upset that Apple makes that pretty much impossible. The reasons for Apple’s refusal to make open-system products? Purity is the number-one reason. Yet another reason is the fact that Apple knows what its customers want, and the majority of them want straight-up, high-quality tech that works straight out of the box.

Why People Hate Apple Lovers

Microsoft users were in the spotlight for years. Apple fans were a very small minority until, that is, the advent of the portable device and iPhone’s emergence on the scene. In addition, more people woke up to the brilliance that is the Apple computer, and grudges began.

The main excuse of Apple haters is that Apple steals all its ideas from other great products. And people who use these products are just fanboys who blindly follow the company even though the praise is undeserved.

The iPhone is a major player in the mobile world now, and there are people who don’t like that. The company dominates the smartphone market, in fact.

One more reason people hate Apple users is the fall of Microsoft Windows, as if the people who use Macs are somehow responsible for that. It couldn’t be the quality or user experience tied in with the machines that is causing Apple’s rise and Microsoft’s fall, now could it?
