iPhone 5S and 5C dominate Japan’s smartphone top 10 sale list

It’s been just over two months since Apple released its most recent handsets in Japan, and sales are still very strong. In fact, they took nine of the top 10 smartphone slots, according to sales rankings from BCN. Each carrier has been counted as different models, with the 32GB iPhone 5S on SoftBank at the top of the list, followed by the same iPhone on NTT docomo and au.

The first nine slots are all Apple, with the 10th being a low-end Chinese device from ZTE. The top-selling Samsung device was the Galaxy S4 and came in at 16th.

This release is the first time iPhones have been on NTT DoCoMo, one of the largest carriers in Japan. Before this NTT DoCoMo was losing lots of customers to other carriers, partially because of the lack of the iPhone. It’s much like Verizon in the U.S. back before 2011. Although it tried to push the Droid, people were leaving to AT&T to get the iPhone. NTT DoCoMo always tried to push Android smartphones in Japan, but it’s clear that the Japanese love Apple products.
