The iPad Pro is a heavily rumored new product from Apple that will have a 12.9 inch screen. Apple has yet to announce this device, but rumors have been coming in for the past few months. The latest report from International Business Times claims that this device will have a 2K resolution and eye tracking technology.
2K resolution doesn’t really refer to a certain resolution; it actually refers to anything having a horizontal resolution on the order of 2,000 pixels. With that said, the Retina iPad range models all have a horizontal resolution of 2048 pixels, so this might actually mean that the iPad Pro will have the same resolution of the other Retina iPads. Previous reports claim the device will have a 4K display, but that would be too expensive for Apple to use in the next few years, both through the panel cost and the graphics hardware needed to run the large screen.
Eye tracking technology is an interesting idea, but would be difficult for Apple to effectively integrate it into iOS to be truly useful. Maybe we will see something like Samsung’s eye tracking feature that will pause a video if you look away.
