iPad Air declared best tablet at MWC

Apple didn’t turn up at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, much like in previous years. That, however, didn’t stop the company from winning the Best Mobile Tablet award for 2014 in the 19th Annual Global Mobile Awards. The judges claimed that the device has class-leading performance, looks good whilst being light, and has a huge amount of tablet-optimized apps.

Apple has won this award before; in 2012 Apple won it for the iPad 3 with Retina Display. In 2013 the popular Google Nexus 7 won, largely thanks to its form factor and low price point.

Most other smartphone manufacturers are at Mobile World Congress including Samsung, which announced its latest flagship: the Galaxy S5. The device hasn’t gone down too well though, since it features a similar design to the S4 and seems to just have copied features from other flagship devices (for example it now has a fingerprint scanner on the home button, much like Touch ID). Nokia has unveiled a new range of low-end Android smartphones and some very cheap feature phones.
