Peter Misek, an analyst for Jefferies, is claiming that Apple is currently negotiating with wireless carriers to raise the price of the iPhone 6 by $100. This would likely result in the cost being carried forward to the consumer price, increasing the subsidized price of the iPhone 6 to $299 for the base model. Currently carriers are refusing, but given Apple’s power on the smartphone market it’s likely that they’ll give in.
The iPhone 6 is expected to ship later this year, with rumors suggesting that there will be two different sizes: 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch. It’s possible that the price increase might only be to the 5.5-inch model, which will likely feature some higher specifications than its smaller sibling. Both devices will feature an updated processor (likely the A8), Touch ID, 1GB of RAM and an improved camera.
It’s possible that Apple might just be removing the 16GB option, and making 32GB storage the lowest option. Alternatively it might just be a sales tactic to make a cheaper model like the 5C look cheaper.
