Microsoft launches Office 365 personal plan, one Mac and one iPad for $69/year

On Tuesday Microsoft started selling a new Office 365 plan: personal. It’s less expensive than the existing home plan, but offers fewer device licenses. Whilst the home plan allows five computers (PCs or Macs) and five tablets (iPad, Surface RT, Android), the new personal plan only allows one computer and one tablet. Instead of $9.99/month (or $99/year) for the home plan, the personal plan costs $6.99/month (or $69/year)

The new plan can be purchased at Office365.com, at Microsoft Stores, and through Microsoft’s various online and retail partners. It’s not currently available through the iPad, maybe because of the 30 percent fee Apple charges for in-app purchases.

Microsoft hasn’t revealed any numbers on how well its new tablet apps are doing, although the company was at the top of the downloads charts when first released. It’ll be a hard sell to iPad users when Apple has made its iWork suite free on iOS. That being said, Office is still the dominant document suite for both personal and business use.
