Apple letting developers get a second chance to get unclaimed WWDC tickets

According to a report from 9to5Mac and Twitter users, Apple is letting some developers buy unclaimed WWDC tickets. Apple has been sending out emails to certain developers, letting them know of the offer and giving them 24 hours to pay the $1,599 ticket price.

This year Apple offered WWDC tickets through a lottery system to paid iOS and Mac developers. If developers got lucky and got tickets, they had until April 14 to pay for them.

It’s not clear how many tickets have gone unclaimed or how the company is choosing developers to offer the unclaimed tickets. It might simply be a popularity thing, with the developers for the most popular apps getting the offers first.

Apple typically uses the WWDC to announce the latest versions of iOS and OS X. They also make hardware announcements: Apple unveiled the Haswell MacBook Air at the WWDC, alongside the updated Mac Pro. They used to also announce the iPhone update, but this was postponed until October for the 4S in 2011 and has been unveiled at a separate event ever since.
