Apple delaying launch of 5.5-inch iPhone Air due to battery issues

According to Taiwan’s Industrial and Commercial Times, we won’t be seeing a 5.5-inch iPhone Air phablet until 2015. The report claims that Apple is trying to find a sufficient battery that is equal or less than 2mm, to ensure the device is very thin.

The report is also the first we’ve heard that mentions the name of the larger iPhone 6, the “iPhone Air.” This would put the product alongside the iPad Air and MacBook Air, and therefore demands that the device has a slim case. It makes sense for such a large device to try and be as thin as possible. It’s already bordering on being hard to use because of the size, and the thicker the device, the smaller the reach of your fingers in one handed usage.

We expected that the iPhone “Air” would launch after the 4.7-inch model, after various reports claimed that was Apple’s intention. However we didn’t think it would result in over three months difference between the launches.

The iPhone 6 range will feature a new A8 processor, Touch ID and a better camera that features optical image stabilization. Apple is also attempting to make the device more expensive, by $100. Reports claim that they are negotiating with carriers at the moment, who currently seem reluctant to price it higher than any other flagship device.
