A new report from MacGeneration claims that both the 11-inch and the 13-inch MacBook Airs might get an update next week. The report cites reliable sources, and says that we’ll see new devices that feature 11-inch and 13-inch display sizes. Apple’s last update to the MacBook Air was in June 2013, where they updated the processors to Haswell chips (giving a large increase in battery life for similar performance to previous versions), PCI-Express based SSD’s (faster than the ones they used before) and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
If this report is correct, it’s likely that one of the changes would be a small speed bump. Currently the entry-level model features a 1.3GHz i5 processor. Intel have just unveiled some new processors, including various 1.4GHz and 1.5GHz models. However it’s unknown what processor Apple would use to replace the higher-end i7 chip offered, since Intel hasn’t offered a direct successor to that chip.
Apple is expected to also launch a 12-inch Retina MacBook Air sometime in the third quarter of 2014.
