On Monday Microsoft announced a new offer to MacBook Air owners. You can now walk into a Microsoft retail store and trade in your MacBook Air for $650 of store credit towards a Surface Pro 3. The Surface is being touted as both a tablet and a laptop. It runs the full version of Microsoft Windows 8.1, so can run all the apps that a laptop can run, whilst also featuring a relatively compact frame and a touchscreen, making it useable as a tablet.
The Surface Pro 3 was revealed in May, featuring a 12-inch screen and up to 512GB of storage. Prices start at $799 (so $149 with an Air trade in). To get comparable specifications to that of a baseline MacBook Air, you’ll have to spend $1128.99.
Microsoft says that trade-in values will vary depending on the condition of the MacBook Air. The offer is only valid against a Surface Pro 3 purchase.
