ComScore: iPhone is number one smartphone for U.S. marketshare

According to a new report from ComScore, the iPhone is the most popular smartphone in the U.S. by a significant margin. The company also claims that roughly 70 percent of all mobile users use smartphones in the U.S; 169 million people. Of those 169 million people, 41.9 percent of them use a smartphone from Apple. Samsung is predictably the runner-up with 27.8 percent of smartphone users. In third place is LG, with 6.5 percent, then 6.3 percent for Motorola and 5.1 percent for HTC.

The research also looked at the applications people were using on their devices. Just over 76 percent of all smartphone users have Facebook. Then, users have Google Play Store (essentially all Android users have this app). After that there’s YouTube, Google Search and Pandora Radio.

When we look at operating systems, we see that Android has the biggest share of the market at 52.1 percent. As expected, iOS has 41.9 percent. Microsoft’s Windows Mobile Platform has just 3.4 percent, BlackBerry has 2.3percent, and Symbian has just 0.1 percent.
