DigiTimes is reporting that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will be launched after the 4.7-inch model. However unlike previous rumors which claimed that Apple is having difficulty manufacturing the 5.5-inch model, DigiTimes claims that Apple is doing this to avoid competition between the two models. Apple cited the 2013 launch of the 5S and the 5C simultaneously, and the iPhone 5C hasn’t sold nearly as well as the 5S (especially at launch).
Apple is expected to unveil the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 at an event in September, but it’s unknown if the company will also show the 5.5-inch model as well. If Apple is actually trying to avoid competition between the two models, it’ll likely not show the 5.5-inch model at the same event. Along with larger screen sizes, the iPhone 6 is expected to have a faster processor (the A8 chip), an improved camera, and thinner profile. It’ll come running iOS 8 out of the box.
