Bose sues Beats for patent infringement in noise-cancelling headphones

On Friday Bose filed a lawsuit against Beats Electronics. The company is accusing Beats of infringing on patents related to noise cancelation and other audio technologies. Beats Studio and Beats Studio Wireless headphones advertise “Adaptive Noise Cancelation," and Bose believes they violate five Bose patents in the U.S.

The lawsuit is requesting an injunction, which would prevent Beats from producing any more products that infringe Bose’s patents. Bose has also requested a damages award for use of the company's technology. Bose also filed a complaint with the ITC, asking for a sales ban on infringing Beats products.

Apple is expected to finalize the purchase of Beats this quarter, after announcing the $3 billion acquisition in May. Apple is no stranger to patent lawsuits as it is currently in an ongoing dispute with Samsung Electronics over smartphone patents.
