Public beta launch doubles OS X Yosemite’s share of Mac traffic

According to installation numbers from GoSquared, Yosemite’s share of global Mac traffic doubled after the launch of the public beta on Thursday. Before the public beta, usage was at 0.26 percent. Since then it’s risen to 0.53 percent (at time of writing). If you want to check the most recent figures, go to their public Yosemite tracker.

Yosemite interest has been strong since the initial beta version was offered to developers. Chitika found early adoption rates were outpacing Mavericks adoption rates by a significant margin. This is likely due to the redesigned interface, which is getting a lot of attention. Developers will likely have to redesign some of their apps to fit the new design, much like how iOS developers had to redesign their apps for iOS 7.

GoSquared’s numbers come from the percentage of page views across all websites that utilize the analytics platform. The numbers are updated every minute. GoSquared claims to have over 50,000 teams using the service, so is quite likely to be representative of the average visitor.
