On Saturday, French website Nowhereelse.fr released some photos claimed to be the upcoming iPhone 6’s logic board. The source was from China, and Nowhereelse.fr claims it’s a “particularly reliable” source. This source claimed that the logic board includes an NFC chip and a wireless 802.11ac Wi-Fi module. Both of these would be new connectivity features for the iPhone line. The picture lacks any included chips though, only the logic board, so we only have the source’s claims to go by.
It’s been rumored that Apple would include NFC support for e-wallet functions for years. However Apple has made its own technologies in recent years for short-range functions. These technologies include iBeacons and AirDrop. Therefore the NFC claim is questionable: why would Apple add NFC so late? It’s been a feature on various Android smartphones for the past two years and is now commonplace on mid-end to high-end Android smartphones.
