ModBook has announced a new Kickstarter campaign, allowing users to turn their 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro into tablets. They’re asking for $150,000 in total, and will allow users to send in their own machines to be converted for $1999 or buy completed systems from Modbook at $3999. You can get many different configurations of the ModBook Pro X, including the top of the line 2.8GHz chip, 32GB of RAM and 2TB of flash storage.
The price restricts the product to creative professionals, who can use the product in applications like Photoshop and Illustrator. The screen has 2,048 pen pressure levels, so it’s highly accurate for any drawing work.
The company will start shipping systems in January 2015, in limited quantities. Bulk orders are expected to start the following month, and send-in-your-own systems will ship a month later.
