A new report from The Information claims that Apple’s revamped Apple TV isn’t likely to appear until 2015. The revamped model would feature support for games, apps and expanded access to TV content. The delay is thought to be due to ongoing contractual issues with cable companies. It might also be due to Comcast’s intent to purchase Time Warner Cable, slowing down new contracts from being signed.
Rumors have been around for years about a subscription television service for the Apple TV, which could result in more customers leaving their tradition cable subscriptions. Because of this, cable companies aren’t very willing to negotiate a deal with Apple. The latest rumors, from February 2014, claimed that Apple would provide content from cable companies through its own device, featuring an Apple TV-style interface. Customers, however, would still need a cable subscription as this would just be another way of accessing content.
