As we’ve already discussed numerous times, Apple is likely to release its own version of a smartwatch either late in 2014 or early 2014. Let’s, for our purposes, call it the iWatch. If the unit comes out looking like anything already released, then the company is in trouble, but really, do we really think that Apple will do anything of the sort? It’s likely to be totally revolutionary, just like pretty much anything else Apple does. So what could the company do to make this the best smartwatch ever?
According to the chief analyst at Jackdaw Research, Apple could make the iWatch into a payment platform, which would make it unique so far in the smartwatch category. Adding work IDs and membership cards would add even more functionality. If it could communicate with al your devices, including your home automation system. Imagine walking into a room and having the lights turn on, or have your Nest thermostat change the temperature when you came home. Yet another function could be to act as a remote for other smart devices. As an added measure of security, your iWatch could act as a Bluetooth key to unlock your iPhone.
