iPad sales declining; Apple will unveil gold iPad to increase sales

According to people who know the plans, Apple is going to add a gold-colored iPad in a bid to increase sales in the iPad category. Apple will host a media event later in October, and it’s expected that the 9.7-inch iPads will include gold as a color option. The iPad Air will be available in silver and grey. This will make the iPads come in the same color option as the 5S, with space grey with a black faceplate, or gold or silver backs with a white faceplate. Apple has used color in the past to boost sales.

Sales of iPads have gone down over the last two quarters. This was after going from $5 billion when they were first debuted in 2010, to $30 billion in 2012. In 2013, $32 billion worth of iPads were sold. As of 9:31 am today, Apple shares fell to $100.60 in New York.

Apple has not put out a new iPad since October 2013, and people have been choosing phones with larger screens. Approximately half of the people who bought the new iPhone chose the larger of the two, the iPhone 6 Plus.

A spokesperson at Apple failed to comment.
