Apple ordered to face a lawsuit over lost text messages

U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh ordered Apple Inc. to face a U.S. federal lawsuit that states the company failed to tell consumers that its messaging system would block them from receiving their text messages if they switched from iPhones to Android smartphones. The plaintiff, Adrienne Moore, says that the message clocking interfered with her contract with Verizon Wireless after she switched from an iPhone 4 to a Samsung Galaxy S5 in April. She claims that Apple failed to disclose how the iOS 5 software would block the delivery of “countless” messages from other Apple users if iPhone users switched to non-Apple phones. In her decision, Koh said that the plaintiff deserved the chance to show how her wireless service contract was disrupted and how Apple violated a California unfair competition law.

Apple now offers an online tool to help users who switch to non-Apple devices to retrieve their messages from iPhone users.
