Apple Maps defeats Google Maps in contest

When it first came out, Apple Maps wasn’t well received but users, as it directed users to wrong places (some even got trapped in an Australian National Park) and generally being very poor with information supplied. However in the past few months the company has been working to improve it, and so two technology experts decided to see how much it had improved by comparing it to the market leader: Google Maps.

So, three journalists raced each other to get to the Apple headquarters – one using Apple Maps, one on Google Maps and the other on Waze. The results found that the driver using Apple Maps actually arrived first, with Google Maps second and Waze third. According to the journalists, this was down to Google Maps struggling to reroute journeys quickly on the go, which delayed them.

However it isn’t the hardest place for Apple to get right – if they had incorrect information on their own headquarters it’d be embarrassing, so the company has obviously focused on getting that and nearby places right. Users seemed to have stopped complaining about Apple Maps, however that might be to do with the Google Maps app now being released, so those annoyed at Apple Maps have an easy-to-use alternative.
