On Monday, Apple officials talked about iOS 7 and what it will mean for users. The iOS software has been radically changed: Tim Cook said it is the “biggest change to iOS since the introduction of the iPhone.”
The new software will be available in the autumn and will offer a lot of new features. The upgrade to the software is being handled by Jonathan Ive, the man who helped design the iPad and iPhone. He presented the changes via a video recording and actually sat in the front row during the keynote speech.
Apple presented some new features of iOS 7:
- From the home screen, users will be able to jump straight into system settings without having to swipe to another screen
- Photos and Camera apps get a new look
In the photo app, users will notice their photos are more organized, based on when each image was shot. These will be placed automatically into folders.
In the Camera app, users will get the option to shoot as a panorama or a square photo. Instagram-like filters will also be available.
Other items mentioned during the keynote were:
- AirDrop, which will let iOS users send photos directly to each other
- MacBook Air laptops get revamped
- Mac Pro gets totally overhauled
This year’s keynote didn’t talk much about Maps or improvements to the app. There was also no controversy compared to last year’s brouhaha over Apple kicking out Google Maps and YouTube.
