Huawei wants to be bigger than Apple

Huawei wants to become one of the top three phone manufacturers by 2015 and officials say the fall of Apple could help the company do just that. At the moment though the brand has an image of cheap Android smartphones, certainly not up there with Samsung, HTC, and Apple. That might all change with the launch of Huawei Ascend P6, which is the world’s thinnest smartphone and still manages to pack some serious processing power.

Huawei keeps its smartphones relatively basic on the software side, running hardly tweaked versions of Android. This should help keep costs down, which in turn can be used to reduce the price of the handsets. The company intends to make "the best smartphone in the world" and make it cheaper than the iPhone and Samsung’s flagship.

The chief executive was very dismissive about Samsung smartphones, calling the Galaxy S4 a “so-so smartphone” and talked about the poor build quality of the S4, comparing it to Huawei's non-plastic smartphones. He said that the reason for Samsung being so popular is the huge amounts the company spends on marketing – something Huawei doesn’t do much of. He certainly sounded very confident about his products; maybe Huawei will do well.
