Now that Apple Pay has been in use for a couple of months, we can now get a better picture of where it’s being used. It was launched on October 16 and has ben in use since then; it has already grown to make up more than 1.7 percent of mobile payments. Over the same period, Google Wallet made up four percent of all mobile payments.
When it comes to the biggest Apple Pay retailers, they were Whole Foods, Walgreens, and McDonalds. Panera and Subway were numbers four and five. According to the research firm ITG, which did the research, Whole Foods made up 20 percent of all the transactions in November, and 28 percent of all the money spent. Walgreens made up of 19 percent of transactions (11 percent of spent), and McDonald’s made up 11 percent of transactions (and three percent of money spent). Right now, the major player when it comes to mobile payments i PayPal. It enjoyed a 78 percent market share in November.
