Over the last few months there has been widespread speculation that Apple was going to relaunch it's music service. And if the purchase of London's Semetric is any indication, it appears that those speculations are accurate. Despite Apple's longstanding policy of not discussing their purchases of smaller tech companies, many analysts believe that the purchase of Semetric cements a relaunch as this smaller company produces an analytycs service that tracks a wide range of data like sales and illegal downloads, according to WSJ.com.
This analysis could be huge with any music service, especially Apple which has a global platform. Being able to offer tracking analytics to musicians could be a huge sell. Additionally, being able to track illegal downloads and popularity on Social Media could also greatly benefit all parties involved.
With the purchase of Semetric and Beats Electronics, not only is it a safe bet that Apple will launch a streaming music service, but they could directly compete with Spotify which is one of the top companies in this niche. And, we all know how Apple loves a good battle.
