Smartwatches and how Apple Watch will measure up

The long-awaited wearable device that will soon come out from Apple is supposed to come out in the spring, and the talk about these kinds of devices is getting ramped up. The analyst firm CCS Insight says that more than 40 million smartwatches and fitness bands will be sold in 2015, with the most being by Apple.

Right now, smartwatches you can buy now are pretty limited. Most of them tell time, but some ask you to push a button or flick your hand/wrist in order for the screen to light up. Many also connect to your smartphone to let you see who’s calling, check calendar appointments, or read text messages. this lets you keep your phone in your pocket, holster, case, or bag. Some track the number of steps you’ve taken and your heart rate. The main thing is that not many of them do it that really well, but cost the same as some smartphones. Batteries also last for a day or less.

When the Apple Watch comes out in a couple of months, it will likely be the most successfully selling smartwatch we’ve seen so far. Even if only 10 percent of all iPhone owners in the world bought the Apple Watch, the company would still sell about 28 million of them.
