Things to watch for in Apple’s earnings

Today is the day that Apple will post its earnings for the quarter that ended in December; this is usually the most lucrative quarter for the company because of holiday shopping. This year, all eyes are going to be on the tech giant considering that these earnings will show the first sign of how all the new products have performed. Here are a few things to watch for in the results.

How iPhone 6 performed compared to iPhone 6 Plus

China’s demand for the bigger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus range might have helped increase Apple phone sales, according to analysts. Last year was the first full quarter for the phones; the iPhone 6 plus cost $100 more. Analysts believe between 20 and 30 percent of sales will be for the 6 Plus.

How iPad sold compared to Mac

During the Q4 period last year, Apple made more in revenue from Mac laptops and computers than from iPads for the first time since the middle of 2011. Mac sales went up about 19 percent due to student purchases, while iPad sales fell for the third quarter in a row as the market for tablets became more saturated. This trend might have continued in Q4.

How Apple Pay performed compared to CVS

In October, Apple introduced Apple Pay in its attempt to replace your wallet with an all-new payment system called Apple Pay. CVS Health Corp. and Rite Aid Corp. immediately blocked the tech in their drugstores. CVS, Wal-Mart, Rite Aid, and other retailers have also worked together to build CurrentC that links right into shoppers’ checking accounts. So far it looks good for Apple: in the first 72 hours, over a million people activated accounts and in the first six weeks, took one percent of digital-payment dollars. In comparison, it took Google Wallet three years to get to just four percent.
