Apple or Samsung: who was number one?

So, who has come out ahead for Q1 figures, Apple or Samsung? Based on the figures provided by the two tech giants, Apple beat Samsung just a tiny bit. On Tuesday, Apple announced that it had achieved an almost 40 percent rise in net profit and had sold 74.5 million iPhones for the three months ending on December 27. In comparison, on Wednesday, Samsung only offered some vague information on how many smartphones it had sold. The head of Samsung’s investor relations, Robert Yi, said that the company shipped 95 million mobile phones in Q4. Of that number, between 71 and 76 million were smartphones. So unless 78.4 percent were smartphones, Apple probably won out.

This might not mean much to us, whoever actually sold more is a huge deal to the two giants. They’ve sent most of the last four years fighting over patents in court. In 2011, Samsung won out against Apple and it’s been that way every since…until now, possibly.
