Rumor: Apple buys software firm FoundationDB

Apple may have purchased FoundationDB according to a report from TechCrunch. A blog post on FoundationDB’s blog says the author thinks Apple could use its technology in the App Store, iTunes iCloud products, or iTunes Connect. FoundationDB software can perform ACID-compliant transactions very quickly. Rumors have been going around suggesting that Apple is close to making a deal that would offer Mac, iOS, and Apple TV clients amazing content services for under $40 a month. That would require major changes to the existing infrastructure.

Neither Apple nor FoundationDB have confirmed the purchase but the software firm posted on its website that it was no longer offering database software downloads. Apple’s response was the typical “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
