Handoff is an iOS 8 feature that lets third-party developers and Apple apps to share data so you can do some work on one device and finish it on another. For example, you can start writing an email on your MacBook Pro in the Mail app, and you can finish writing the email on our iPhone. Or do the same with other apps like Safari, Contacts, Notes, Calendar, Reminders, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Messages, and third-party apps that are enabled, like the NYTimes, Pocket, and Wunderlist apps. To be used, any devices to use Handoff have to be capable of Bluetooth Low Energy, on the same WiFi networks, and have iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite. Users also have to be sure they’re signed into the same iCloud account.
To enable Handoff on an iOS device, go to Settings then General, then Handoff and Suggested Apps. The Handoff button has to be in the “on” position. On a Mac, go to System Preferences and then General. Make sure the “Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices” box is checked off.
