Apple acquires GPS firm, Looking to bolster mapping functions

One of the great things about the constantly evolving world of technology is that you can count on Apple to be at the forefront of this evolution. Never fully resting on outdated tech, Apple continues to push the envelope. And, if it can't develop the new tech itself, then it will go out and acquire the firm that can. According to a report by MacRumors.com, Apple has apparently acquired Coherent Navigation to improve its GPS capabilities.

Coherent Navigation is a Bay Area company, founded in 2008 by Cornell and Stanford engineers. Their primary focus was GPS related systems. Coherent Navigation had a unique collaboration with Iridium that offered a superior accuracy with GPS.

What's the one thing that people complain about the most when it comes to mapping apps - the accuracy. And now, Apple is looking to take its GPS system to another level. In fact, this tech reportedly can provide accurate location information to within centimeters. Imagine the tech being used in hiking or boating apps. Imagine this tech on apps that monitor your kids' location via their phones or even your car's location.

Does this new technology excite you about future GPS capabilities?
