It’s the opinion of some tech writers that Apple appears to be stretched thin and the best way to remedy that is to kill off the Mac line. That would allow the company, according to an article by WSJ, to focus more efforts and attention on the iOS line of devices, the Apple TV, and maybe even a car. Meanwhile, the new iMac has more pixels than any other PC and costs four times as much. Sure, they look good, but is there really a market for them to the extent that continue to make enough money for Macs to be worth the trouble?
Looking deeper at this issue, in the quarter ending in January 2015, Apple took in the highest revenue for the Mac line ever, and yet the Mac was the lowest-ever proportion of overall revenue. Apple doesn’t need that revenue, though, and some writers think that the future doesn’t involve computers and so Apple should focus more attention on the things that do matter.
