The iOS update isn’t great news for advertisers

Apple has changed the way iOS apps work, making improvements to privacy. This is great news for users, but not-so-good news for developers. Basically, the tech giant is making it harder or impossible for developers to access data that is generated or gathered by other apps. The info is commonly used by companies to create target ads. Twitter is one of the major companies/apps to use this data, amongst literally tens of thousands of others. According to a report by Fast Company, a change upcoming in iOS 9 will stop apps from scanning users’ devices to see what other apps they have installed. Apple sees using the API called “canopenURL” as being “contrary to the iOS security model.”

This will benefit users and will allow Apple to have more control over where and when advertising is presented on iOS devices.
