General Motors is adding Apple CarPlay capability in the LaCrosse and the Regal in addition to some of the GMC Sierra models at the beginning of the 2016 model year. All Yukon, Canyon, and Sierra models will follow later in the model year.
According to a report by The Globe and Mail, the information will be projected onto the screen using the IntelliLink system, while most of the apps can also be accessed by voice commands once a button on the steering wheel is pressed. The system will allow users to make calls, receive or send messages, and listen to music. It will be compatible with phones with iOS 7.1 or later. The brand director of Buick in Canada, Mike Speranzini, said “Drivers now have a simple and safe way to have all the conveniences of their mobile devices in the vehicle and at their fingertips.”
