iPad most popular among businesses, pet owners, and moms

A new study has been released looking at iOS usage among specific groups of people. The research is from Flurry, an analytics firm, which revealed the results on Friday. They looked at the share of iOS devices by “persona” which includes things like “business professionals” and “TV lovers.” The analysis showed that iPad usage accounts for roughly 70 percent of iOS use for pet owners. After that, small business owners made up of 60 percent for iPad. Moms were also more likely to use the iPad than the iPhone.

The iPhone was far more popular than the iPad for “value shoppers,” “singles,” and “hip urban lifestyles.” Overall the study showed that the more “on the move” personas were more likely to use an iPhone due to its portability over the iPad.

The iPad usage peaked between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. showing that the device is mainly used after work for relaxing activities. The iPhone had similar peak times but user engagement was higher past 10 p.m. than the iPad, suggesting that people were more likely to use the iPhone in bed or while out on late nights.

The data came from a random sample of 44,295 iOS users gathered throughout May. iPod touch usage wasn’t recorded.
