Apple launches newly redesigned Educational site

As the school year gets started, Apple has launched a new “Apple and Education” page on their site. It features a simple design and fresh categories showing how iPhones, Macs, and iPads all help in the classroom. Each section of the website gives resources for teachers and parents.

The iPad section covers how to use apps for lesson planning. The Special Educational section describes the various accessibility options in iOS and OS X which can help special needs students. The Mac section talks about iLife, iWork, and the Mac App Store.

Education is important for Apple, especially with the iPad. We’re seeing huge contracts awarded to the company now, the latest of which is from the L.A. council for $30 million for iPads across the various school districts.

Apple has also opened up iTunes accounts to under-13 year olds for the first time, making it easier for parents to let kids have their own apps. There’s also been improvements to other account features; schools can now have a master account and bulk buy apps.
