Sources close to Apple have reported that Apple will double the in-house design and marketing group. This will take it from around 300 employees to between 500 and 600 staff. The 300 number came as a surprise given Apple’s very successful marketing; it turns out it was kept around that number by Steve Jobs who didn’t want Apple to look like a marketing company but rather a products company.
Apple has since changed and is looking to keep its intellectual property within the company's own operations. Apple has hired some senior creatives, creative directors, and heads of innovation to try and improve the company's advertising and marketing image.
Apple’s ads over the last year have been alright; they get the point across and remind customers about new features. If we’re honest, though, they’re not too interesting. Apple already has a great brand image and that’s what is selling the products. Apple had much better adverts when it was the underdog, with those iPod adverts.
Maybe these new advertisers will change things. Hopefully they do since the holiday season is coming up and it’ll help boost sales.
