The iPhone 5C launched at a higher price than many anticipated. While the $79 iPhone 5C deal that Walmart has going is not going to make it free, it’s still useful. Walmart has knocked $20 off the price tag with a two-year contract. So the 16GB model costs $79 on a two-year contract (instead of $99) and the 32GB will cost $179 (instead of $199).
After the iPhone 5S instead? Walmart is still offering a discount, albeit just $10 off. It’ll make the base model (16GB) just $189 on a two-year contract.
Walmart has said that Apple isn’t offering the store any discount on iPhones but Walmart has decided to offer this discount anyway. The stores sell a huge number of phones so it shouldn’t take much off of profits.
Pre-orders are available this Friday (13th September) although you’ll have to wait until the 25th of September before you can pick up your device. If you want the device on launch day you’ll have to join the inevitable queues outside a store. If you have an iPhone 5 you might want to wait until the 21st then you can get up to $300 off the price (although you’ll probably still be in contract so you’ll have to pay the unsubsidized price)
