Local Dishes

One of the great things about traveling to other cities, especially for a foodie, is to experience the best of that city's cuisine. Unfortunately you don't always know where or what that is. The MyCityCuisine app can answer that question for you by offering a comprehensive list of dishes that are common and representative of the local cuisine. You can get acquainted with the well-known and popular dishes in each city/region. As well you are given a list of restaurants where you can find these dishes.

The app is stocked with information on cuisine in 100 cities worldwide and this is a number that is constantly being increased. The app is meant to be the mobile companion tool to the popular website MyCityCuisine.org, which is a Wiki project. All the content you will find is generated by world-wide contributors.

For me one of the best parts about traveling is discovering the local cuisine but all too often as a visitor you get suckered into those horrible tourist traps of a restaurant that offers a sub-par version of the local specialties. Not only does it leave you disappointed but it’s actually an unfair representation of the local dishes.

How to Find Information

The app has been designed to be quick and easy to use with all the focus being on the dishes and restaurants instead. The main menu of the app allows you to search for a city by name or view your downloaded guides. Keep in mind you will need to have an Internet connection on order to search for a city and then download its guide. Once you have it downloaded you can view it offline.

Each city is broken down into the number of local dishes, then what category the dishes fall into (appetizers, mains, desserts). Tap on each category to read a description of the dish and where you can find it.

Additional features include being able to look up dishes at a specific restaurant, vote on your favorite dish, make comments on dishes, and use the offline city map that will help you find restaurants.

Not every city is offered for free; some will require you to make an in-app purchase for $1.99.
