Flashlight. app review: never leave home without it

Reviews

Introduction

If you're heading out on a road trip, find you need to walk to your car in the dark, or just need a light here and there, you need the Flashlight. app. Not only will it brighten your way but it gives you a fun twist on your typical flashlight app that you're used to: this one lets you customize its features.

Lighting Your Way with Fun

There's no need to light your way with just a standard old flashlight when this app offers you incredibly fun effects instead. Use effects such as fireworks, candy hearts, festive holiday, magnifying glass, Halloween, photos, and plenty of other effects. Of course you still get the standard bright white light, which is always wise to have.

While you get plenty of screens to choose from I must say this app is not set up in a very user-friendly manner. Using the solid screens is fairly quick and easy but if you want any of the effects, you need to sort through a number of menu options to find them. This obviously isn’t practical if you want to quickly turn on your flashlight. The same can be said even for the solid color screens; it’s not a quick tap of a button and your screen is lit up. Instead, you have to search for them.

As promised there are customization options here but again they are not set up in the most user-friendly manner. Everything here just seems tedious which is unnecessary for such a simple app.

Added Features and Tools

So what exactly do you get in this app? Well you get a number of solid color screens including white, custom colors, and screen effects. There are strobe light effects and you can adjust the brightness of the screen. You can set the app to automatically open to the screen of your choosing, which I highly recommend so you aren't flipping through a number of menus.

There are some quick controls such as sliding with two fingers in order to change the speed of the effects you have picked, and flick up and down in order to dim or brighten the screen. Keep in mind that all screens and colors can be adjusted.

What this app is handy for is when you need a soft light. You don’t always require a bright LED light; sometimes you just need a little something to light the way. If that’s the case this can certainly do the job. This might be perfect for reading in bed.

Pros

  • Offer solid color, white, and images to use as your flashlight
  • All screens and colors can be adjusted
  • Set the app to automatically open up on the screen of your choosing

Cons

  • Not user-friendly, as picking a screen requires going through many menus
  • The controls are not intuitive
  • The app needs more instructions for the user

Final Thoughts

The Flashlight. app may be a good option for some, especially if you’re looking for a soft or funky light but for myself I didn’t find this one measured up.
