Surprise! 'Smash Cops' Is Not A Game Where You Actually Smash Cops

Reviews

I know, it's kind of what I thought when I downloaded the game too. I said to myself, 'Oh weird, there's a game about smashing cops?', but quickly realized that it's the cops doing the smashing in Smash Cops. In this game it's the bad guys getting smashed, and it's all up to players and their fingers to make that all come together. Smash Cops gives players control of a cop car, with which they chase down perps in what is actually a pretty large driving map. The feature that makes 'Smash Cops' really stand out from other driving games is the new push control system. As opposed to a traditional two-button brake and gas plus d-pad control scheme, players press the screen right behind the car to propel it forward, and steer by sliding that finger side to side. While this control system takes a little bit of getting used to, and is actually pretty difficult to maneuver with around tight corners or consecutive ninety degree turns, it's a great system overall, and it makes 'Smash Cops' worth checking out if you're into driving games, or games that take a risk and try something different.

The game has 22 levels which fall into three different categories of play. The first, 'Pursuit', has players chase down criminals and arrest them by smashing into their car. The chasing and smashing aspects of the game are aided by the 'Ram' feature, in which players simply touch the vehicle they're pursuing and get a turbo boost that'll do bigger damage to your target. Additionally, the 'Emergency' levels have players race through the level to an emergency dispatch call, battling the clock as well as pedestrians and traffic. The 'Challenge' levels have objectives like 'drive the course without hitting any cones which, with the push controls, is actually harder than one might expect. Smash Cops is a solid, fun driving game with an interesting control scheme. The graphics are excellent, and the game runs smoothly (although the load times are a little long). The premise of the game is great, smashing things is fun, and there's a giant map with lots of room for players to do just that. To read more app reviews, click here.
